Trend Boards

Over the past 2 weeks, we've been working on a trend project, researching what we think the trends are going to be in 2012. Sounds easy?
Well, Pixar are bringing out a new film about newts (not really the next Alice in Wonderland?), and the world is, apparently, going to end. Not much to go on really.

But despite this, we created some pretty impressive trend boards (If I may say so myself!). And the presentation, infront of our course leaders, went pretty well too (ended up talking about lovers and jehovah's witnesses).

So, the main themes were burnt pastels and darker shades to represent destruction and the end of the world (a little morbid I know). We also thought about layering to signify fallen buildings and rubble.
I adore knit so we incorporated this for a softer approach, even though the trends were meant to be for Spring Summer 2012!

Felting.

Last week we had 2 days 'learning' to felt. I say 'learning' because I did alot of felting at college, but these 2 days seemed a lot less painstakingly exhausting than the method that I was used to.










Hopefully, there are more pictures to come. (If I can find the other samples as I seem to have misplaced them!)

Embroidery.

Well, this was my other favourite. It's going to be hard to decide what to specialise in next year! It's also going to be hard to decide what pictures to put on here, as there are so many!

This was also the first project where I actually enjoyed drawing! In fact, my excessive drawings of foxes and rabbits became a bit too much...

My final samples were based on fox hunting and are intended for a hunting blazer.

Knit.

This was probably my favourite project. I based the colour palette initially on blue's and green's, as these were colours I hadnt explored before.
I loved the effect of knitting with wire and finer yarns and threads to create a kind of netted effect.





























The colour scheme led me to look at oceans and sea creatures.
For my final piece I hand and machine knitted several jellyfish, using shaping and crochet. I wanted to do something quite unique, as knitted sea creatures are surprisingly popular!
For example, I really loved the work of Inga Hamilton

I also created a small neck piece using layers of knitted pieces.

Weave.

The weave project followed print and ran up until christmas. It involved back strap weaving, tapestry and threading an entire loom.

I based this project on Bath and the beautiful cotswold stone houses as I really love working with quite muted colours.

The 4 weeks of Print was waaaay back in September, seems like years ago

Im going to admit... Looking back on this project, it was my least favourite but I definitely wouldnt rule out using it in future work, but combined with something else. I dont think I was overly imaginative or ambitious with the processes and wish I pushed it a bit more than just the obvious.

My theme was Japanese prints and I focused on Japanese flowers. I enjoyed screen printing most of all but enjoyed the learning process of the other techniques.

Well, this is my first ever blog post. I was pretty rubbish at keeping a diary when I was 12 so this could be a challenge. And i've got quite a lot of catching up to do...
