red thread. akai ito.

i recently helped set up an exhibition called 'red thread', to help raise money for Japan.
we set up a warp outside the venue and created this giant guerilla weave, but of couse, being a knitter, i had to sneak some knitting in there too!

ta daa!

here's a few samples from the yarns i dyed.
i am definately in love with them.

(the top ones are all combed cotton, which dyed beautifully. ^^ this one, however, is cotton slub which the 10 gauge did not like one bit... so this is on the 5 gauge, its not so pretty but it does feel lovely!)

not bad for a first attempt...

my first go at designing my own fairisle pattern and knitting it.
its a bit wonky but knitting is all about the imperfections, right?

the '1000 birds' project

the other day i stumbled across a site that is selling ceramic birds to help raise money for Japan, after the devasting earthquake. the project is inspired by the Japanese story of '1000 paper cranes' and each little bird is handmade. i bought one instantly & he arrived today, wrapped up like a little sweet!

PLEASE please please order one! HELP JAPAN
